There are 21 working days between 1 and 31 October 2026 when Saturdays, Sundays and 2 October are off. That is 31 days less 9 weekend days and 1 holiday; both end dates are counted.
What this calculates
Enter a start date, an end date, your weekend and a list of holidays, and this counts the working days in between. It also gives the calendar days, weekend days and holidays on working days, with a month-by-month table (or year by year for a long range).
The formula
Working days
working days = calendar days − weekend days − holidaysCalendar days
calendar days = end date − start date + 1Weekend days are the Saturdays and Sundays, or only the Sundays, in the range. A holiday is taken off only if it is a listed date on a day that is not already a weekend.
Worked example
With Sunday only as the weekend the same month has 26 working days. All of 2026 has 261 working days before holidays, from 365 days and 104 weekend days.
When to use it, and the mistakes to avoid
Use it to plan a project or a notice period, to count the days a payment, delivery or leave will take, or to find the working days left in a month or a year.
The mistakes that cost the most:
- Forgetting whether the first day counts. Here both ends are counted.
- Leaving out local holidays. State and company holidays are not built in.
- Choosing the wrong weekend. A six-day week has far more working days.
- Worrying about a holiday that falls on a weekend. It is not taken off twice, so listing it does no harm.
- Mixing up working days and business hours. This counts days, not hours.
FAQ
Are the start and end dates counted?
Yes, both. 1 October to 31 October is 31 days, and 5 October to 5 October is one day. If you want the days between the dates without counting the first, subtract one from the calendar days or move the start date forward a day.
How do I enter holidays?
Type the dates in the holidays box as YYYY-MM-DD or DD/MM/YYYY, separated by commas. A holiday that falls on a weekend is not taken off twice, a date listed twice counts once and a date outside your range is ignored.
What if my weekend is only Sunday?
Choose Sunday only. Many Indian offices, shops and factories work six days a week, and the calculator then counts Saturdays as working days.
Does it know public holidays?
No. Holidays differ by country, state, company and year, so you list your own. Add the ones that fall on weekdays in your range, and the calculator takes them off.
How many working days are in a year?
In 2026, with Saturday and Sunday off, there are 261, from 365 days with 104 weekend days. Taking off public holidays that fall on weekdays brings it to about 250 to 255, which is why a working year is usually quoted as around 250 days.
